The mission of HCPS Career and Technical Education is to help students prepare to be enrolled in the college of their choice, enlisted in the military and or employed in the career they have trained for.
CTE programs are designed to contribute to the broad educational achievement of students, including the development of academic, technical and work-readiness skills — the ability to work independently and as part of a team, think creatively, solve problems and use technology. Students who complete CTE programs are prepared for a successful transition into postsecondary education and work. Opportunities are available for students to earn college credits through selected courses and to prepare for licensure and industry certifications related to their programs of study.
Career and Technical Education supports programs and services in 12 HCPS middle schools, nine high schools, two Advanced Career Education Centers, two adult education centers, the Academy at Virginia Randolph and Virginia Randolph Education Center. The department is responsible for monitoring and evaluating existing programs and designing new programs and services consistent with student needs. Opportunities are provided for adults to improve basic reading, writing and math competencies; earn a high school credential; and strengthen specific job skills through a comprehensive adult education program.
