Register for the ACE Center Summer Career Camps Programs 

Registration opens on March 17, 2025
Registration closes May 2, 2025

Withdrawl date: June 2nd, 2025 at 3:00pm

Once registered, students will be conditionally enrolled in their summer course. Upon conditional enrollment in the course, parents will receive an email with information on how to pay their course fee. Payment must be received by the indicated due date below to secure your child’s spot.

Tuition is $50 per student. Only Henrico County residents may enroll in Summer Career Camps. Students do not gain industry-standard certifications as part of the Summer Career Camps program unless noted otherwise.

Rising 9th – 12th-grade students will be able to receive 0.5 credits from the 3-week course. Rising 6th – 8th-grade students will not receive credit.

Summer Career Camps have an attendance requirement. Once a student misses three days of a credited class, he/she will be removed from the class. No credit is earned, and tuition is forfeited. 

Transportation by HCPS will begin on the first day, June 2nd, 2025. Bus schedules will be sent via email prior to the first day of class. Be sure that your email address is clearly and correctly written on the registration form. Students will be picked up from and returned to the elementary school you list on the registration form. 

Classes are filled on a first come/first served basis.

Course Descriptions for rising 6th-8th graders (No Credit)

**Many of the middle school offerings are a 3-in-1 experience where students will participate in 3 different programs for a week each. 

Construction Exploration students will explore the field of construction by learning about basic carpentry, masonry, electricity, and HVAC principles. Learn to use, care for, and handle safely the tools, machines, equipment, and materials commonly used in various construction trades.

Early Childhood Education and Services is ideal for students interested in pursuing the field of education, especially those who have a passion for working with younger children. Students will work directly with preschool-aged children enrolled at Springer Preschool Academy.

**Intro to Auto Tech: (Automotive Technology, Diesel Technologies, & Auto Body Repair)

Automotive Technology introduces students to the automotive industry. You will learn the systems of the vehicle and how they all work together.  We will focus on simple maintenance items that can extend the life of a car/truck. Hands-on use of simple automotive tools as students learn how to service oil/filter, air filter, cabin air filters, and spark plugs.

Diesel Technologies introduces students to the fundamentals of diesel equipment technology. Learn the basics of diesel vehicles, such as fire truck services, school buses, and ambulances. 

Auto Body Repair introduces students to aspects of automotive body repair, including minor body repair and proper use of the tools of the trade. 

**Intro to Cosmetology Services: (Cosmetology, Nail Care, & Barbering)

Cosmetology introduces students to the foundation of hair, nail, and skin care.

Nail Care teaches students the basics of nail care through bacteriology, sanitation, nail disorders, anatomy, physiology, and safety. Students will learn to perform a basic manicure.

Barbering teaches students the basics of hair, scalp, and skin care. Students practice on mannequins to hone their new skills and discover what it takes to operate a barbershop.

**Intro to Entrepreneurship & Business: (Entrepreneurship, Marketing, & Web Development)

Entrepreneurship students learn how to develop their own business ideas through our creative and hands-on building process. At the end of the week, your group will participate in our market day and sell your products. This is a great opportunity for students with a strong Entrepreneurial spirit! 

Marketing students will learn how to create eye-catching and informative marketing campaigns for various products. Students will rotate with the entrepreneurship students and help create innovative marketing campaigns using different digital programs.

Web Development students and learn how to create different digital applications, including websites. 

**Intro to Healthcare: (Nurse Aide, Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy, & Medical Systems Administration)

Nurse Aide is an introductory course for students wanting to learn more about a nursing career, including taking vital signs and patient care.

Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy is an introductory course for students who want to learn more about physical therapy and occupational therapy, including durable medical equipment, adaptive equipment, basic anatomy, and exercises.

Medical Systems Administration is an introductory course for students who want to be medical office workers or specialize in other fields in a medical environment. Students develop skills that prepare them for employment in various medical office environments.

**Intro to Culinary & Hospitality: (Culinary Arts, Baking and Pastry, & Event Planning and Tourism Marketing)

Culinary Arts students participate in creative activities related to following recipes and cooking. Learn basic culinary techniques and menu planning and explore culinary careers.

Baking and Pastry teaches students safety and sanitary practices in a commercial kitchen. Students will focus on breadmaking, cupcake baking/decorating, and making various types of cookies. 

Event Planning & Tourism Marketing students will participate in hands-on cooking demonstrations, learn basic culinary techniques, plan events, and explore the hospitality industry, including food and beverage (catering), lodging, recreation, travel, and tourism.

**Intro to Emergency Response: (Firefighting, EMT, & Criminal Justice)

Firefighting students will learn basic fire prevention skills and experience firefighting tools, equipment, and firefighting techniques, including a field trip to a firehouse.

EMT Intro allows students to complete their CPR/First Aid certification. Other topics include FEMA certificates for emergency situations, learning medical terminology, and “Stop the Bleed” training.

Criminal Justice explores the world of modern law enforcement. Learn to use police equipment to solve crimes and keep order. Topics include crime scene investigation, using police tactical gear, fingerprinting, and common patrol tactics.

**Intro to Multimedia Experiences: (Commercial Photography, TV Media Production, & Radio Broadcasting and Journalism)

Commercial Photography Explore the basics of visual communications with a focus on learning the fundamentals of photography and how to use a DSLM camera. Students will learn about photo-capturing techniques to create captivating photographs, lighting, and basic editing using Adobe Photoshop. 

TV Media Production  Explore T.V. & media production in a professional studio and create/edit student-designed videos. Students experience T.V. broadcasting production and hands-on projects

Radio Broadcasting and Journalism focus on learning about the Production Studio. Learn about the history of audio editing on various platforms, emphasizing Adobe Audition. Students will experience the process of digital audio production via hands-on projects, including sports announcing. 

Intro to Vet Services & Animal Care:

Veterinary Science is an introductory course designed to teach basic skills in animal care and explore various types of animals and their habitats. Content includes care and handling of companion animals, knowledge of common Virginia wildlife, and livestock basics.  Daily hands-on work with various companion animals is required.

Course Descriptions for rising 9th-12th graders (0.5 credits)

Automotive Technology introduces students to the many fields related to the automotive service industry, including engine and brake repair.

Career Explorations explores the various career opportunities that are offered by Henrico County Public Schools at the ACE Centers.

Computer-Aided Drafting is an introductory course where students gain an understanding of how to create drawings and 3D models using the latest CAD software.

Cosmetology teaches students the foundation of professional hair, skin, and nail care. Students will practice the techniques needed to perform these services in a salon environment. 

Criminal Justice explores the world of modern law enforcement. Learn to use police equipment to solve crimes and keep order. Topics include crime scene investigation, using police tactical gear, fingerprinting, and common patrol tactics. 

Culinary Arts & Baking and Pastry students participate in creative activities related to following recipes and cooking. Learn basic culinary techniques and menu planning and explore culinary careers. Students will focus on breadmaking, cupcake baking/decorating, and making various types of cookies. 

Data Science & Math Modeling will have students combine skills in mathematics, statistics, computer science, critical thinking, and problem-solving to explore a variety of phenomena that can be described with data. 

Early Childhood Education and Services is ideal for students interested in pursuing the field of education, especially those who have a passion for working with younger children. Students will work directly with preschool-aged children enrolled at Springer Preschool Academy.

Graphic Communications is designed to introduce students to the world of printing. Learn techniques to manage and control production printing using 21st-century skills and develop digital composition and printing skills, wide format printing, and collation/binding operations.

High Tech Engineering introduces students to a multi-discipline program offering math, science, and engineering. Students work in teams to solve problems incorporating advanced mathematics and science. 

Intro to Plant Science and Gardening introduces students to the science and art of plant cultivation, offering hands-on experiences in a garden setting.

Master Barbering teaches students the basics of hair, scalp, and skin care. Students practice on mannequins to hone their new skills and discover what it takes to operate a barbershop.

Motorsports explore the motorsports technology industry and identify careers in the field.

Pharmacy Technician introduces students to the skills needed to assist pharmacists in delivering healthcare services to clients in various settings. 

Sports Medicine students will spend three weeks learning skills to swim for life. They will be tested on various swimming skills, beginning with blowing bubbles with the goal of learning multiple swimming techniques. 

Advanced students will be able to learn lifeguarding skills and become certified upon completion of the course. They must meet all the testing and skill requirements to receive their certification.

Welding & Precision Machining introduces students to the world of STEM through activities using machining technology. Students learn to lay out and produce projects using industry-standard tools and equipment. 

Welding introduces students to basic welding techniques. Create items using the skills learned and explore options for careers in welding.
