State Course Title: Sports Medicine/Athletic Training I, Sports Medicine/Athletic Training II.

The Sports Medicine course is designed to provide eleventh and twelfth-grade students with a solid foundation in the field of sports medicine/athletic training and other medical fields. Students will develop skills in the prevention, recognition, assessment, management, disposition, and rehabilitation of injuries. Students will learn the principles of designing exercise programs for healthy individuals and developing proper diets through the essentials of nutrition. Upon successful completion, students should be able to assess injuries and illnesses, provide immediate and long-term care, determine the outlook, and design a basic rehabilitation program.

Swimming might be the most popular summertime activity during a hot summer. Every year area pools have to deal with a chronic shortage of certified lifeguards. Two years ago, Henrico CTE partnered with SwimRVA to train our Sports Medicine students to train lifeguards. Please join us as we talk to Debbie Kelo, director of programs at SwimRVA, and Ms. Bobbie Southard, our Sports Medicine teacher, about this important program that helps train more lifeguards in our area.
