State Course Title: Master Barber I, Master Barber II.
Barbering is the study of hair, scalp, and skin. Students study and prepare in a clinical lab setting, using mannequins and live models for manipulative practice. The program emphasizes safety and sanitation, communication, and management skills. Related areas of study include psychology, ethics, and professional image. Competency completions prepare the students to work or apprentice in a local barbershop or beauty salon.
In the second year, students apply their knowledge of barbering skills in a clinical lab setting, using mannequins and live models for manipulative practice. The program emphasizes the management of a barbershop or beauty salon. Competency completion prepares the students for the Virginia State Licensing Exam. A cooperative education method is available for this course. Students combine classroom instruction and supervise on-the-job training in an approved position with continuing supervision throughout the school year.
