Virginia course title: Horticulture Science/ Greenhouse Plant Production and Management/ Floriculture

If you love plants and want to positively impact the environment, a career in greenhouse management might be for you. Greenhouse managers oversee the production of various crops in controlled indoor settings.

They ensure that the plants get optimal conditions for growth, such as temperature, humidity, light, water and nutrients. They also monitor and prevent pests and diseases, and handle harvesting and post-harvesting processes.

Greenhouse management is an important career because it enables you to produce high quality food and ornamental plants year-round, regardless of the weather or season. You can also grow crops that are not native to your region, or experiment with new varieties and techniques. By using greenhouses, you can reduce the environmental impact of agriculture, such as soil erosion, water pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. You can also contribute to food security and biodiversity conservation.

Description:

  • Study the production of greenhouse crops by working in a greenhouse setting.

  • Study flower and plant arrangements, soils, nutrients and the propagation and transplantation of plants.

  • Produce foliage and bedding plants. Take an industry-credentialing assessment related to the course.
