Reshawn is running solo for this episode and talked with Mr. Jason Wynne the Electricity teacher who is working with summer building trades students and senior trades students on our Regency Mall Project. The Regency Mall Project is where Henrico County’s Workforce and Career Development (CTE) has rented a wing of Regency Mall and renovated the storefronts into adult education classrooms. Students in our ACE Center trades programs started working last school year through the summer and will be continuing the work for the 2022-2023 school year until completion. Have a listen as we talk with some students about their experiences and what they learned this summer working on this project.

State Course Title: Electricity I, Electricity II.
Electricity and Cabling is designed to prepare students for entry into electricity-related occupations. Basic principles of electricity are stressed in the first year, with emphasis on residential wiring. Fundamentals are learned using materials, tools, and techniques used in installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment. Students may spend time at actual construction sites. Students can earn one year of a four-year state/national approved apprenticeship program through this two-year class. Students will have the opportunity to earn the 10-hour OSHA certification, as well as the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) certification.
The second-year student continues the study of direct and alternating current (AC/DC), industrial electricity, and motors, as related to practical laboratory work in home and industrial wiring. All projects include applied math, theory, and fundamentals in the field of electricity. Students may participate in the construction of a house. With the approval and recommendation of the teacher, students may spend time on actual work experiences during the second semester. Every year students get to participate in constructing a house as part of our House Building Project. Every two years a new home is built from the foundation up and our students from our skilled trades programs. Students will work alongside each other, and our highly experienced business partners to train on every aspect of building a house.
Students can become certified in the following area(s):
NCCER Academic Electrical Level One
OSHA 10 (Class Requirement-Cannot be used as a CTE credential)
Workplace Readiness
